Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy refers to the many conditions that involve damage to the peripheral nervous system, which is a vast communications network that sends signals between the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and all other parts of the body. There are said to be 5 main stages of neuropathy:

  1. Intermittent pain and numbness
  2. More constant pain
  3. The height of pain
  4. Numbness sets in and is common
  5. Total loss of sensation

There are a few common, effective tests a Santa Fe Podiatrist can do to gauge the severity of a patient’s neuropathy. The most common being an Epidermal Nerve Fiber Density Test (ENFD). For more information and to see if an ENFD test could be right for you, contact a Santa Fe Podiatrist today.
