Diabetic Ulcers

A diabetic ulcer is an open sore or wound that has difficulty healing. These ulcers occur in roughly 15 percent of diabetic patients. The ulcers are most commonly found on the bottom of the foot but are also known to be found on toes and the edges of the feet or other areas where frequent pressure or friction occur. The great risk of a diabetic ulcer is the diminished sensation and feeling in the patient's feet. The risk of infection is high and hospitalization and even amputation can be common. If you are dealing with an ulcer that will not heal, contact a Santa Fe Podiatrist immediately.
